The live transfer demonstration

The sample runs the real potluckdb browser SDK and WebAssembly engine from 0.1.0-rc.df3809a06183 (published 23 September 2026). Its archive SHA-256 is cab5a5f9f76a82232614717c4daeeb4d9837f77930b09bc2bf2ded1e9814a946. The runtime retains its original license and third-party notices. Contact-address wording is updated to the current public domain; runtime authorization is unchanged.

What runs

On demand, the browser creates 20,000 SQLite notes, each with a title, category, repeated explanatory text and 96 randomized bytes encoded as hexadecimal. It publishes the database through the SDK's S3 adapter. A fresh local database then reads 20 primary-key-selected rows from that published state. The interface shows three of those result rows to keep the display compact.

“Read again” repeats the same query on the same local database. “Edit one row & sync” updates one title, commits locally and publishes through the real engine. “Read 20 rows” opens a new local reader so it is a cold read again, even after edits.

Transport and counts

The S3 adapter is backed by a small in-memory, conditional-write-capable demo transport. There are no external bucket requests, real cloud credentials or cloud charges. SQL execution, page selection, compression, deduplication and publication are performed by the real engine. The transport records every request's body size and response body size, start time, finish time and status.

No HTTP headers, TLS framing, engine downloads or cloud latency are included. The waterfall's positions reflect measured local operation timing. A two-pixel minimum makes very short request segments visible; it is not a latency benchmark. All requests contribute to totals even when only the first eight are displayed. Expand the exact trace or download the JSON measurement for the complete request list and exact byte counts.

The reader disables background prefetch for this isolated query demonstration. Read/write concurrency is set to four. The separate prefetch section describes and links the controlled prefetch measurements; this scene does not claim a prefetch speedup. Values vary with generated data, query shape, caching and SDK release.

Running and storage

Run python scripts/serve.py from the source repository. The page needs COOP same-origin, COEP require-corp, WebAssembly and origin-private file storage. The supplied _headers file can be used on static hosts that support that format. Other hosts need equivalent header configuration. The demo loads its engine only when the visitor presses the start button; unsupported browsers get an explicit message rather than simulated measurements.

Each run uses a unique potluck-transfer-demo-* path. Clear demo data closes the owners and removes that run's files, without touching any other origin data. Reloading cannot reliably await worker shutdown; prior runs may remain in site storage until the user clears that site's data. The library's trial/entitlement rules still apply. No license or entitlement is embedded in the website. If browser authorization or platform support prevents a run, the demo displays an unavailable message and links to the documentation quickstart.
